Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)

With 250,000 people affected by ME in the UK is it time for this condition to be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

The Government spends just £1 a year on research per person effected by ME, this simply is not good enough. Sadly I was not able to attend the debate held in Parliament due to commitments I had in the constituency but wanted to assure those in Brighton Kemptown who are affected by ME either directly or indirectly that I will continue to represent their needs.

I have been in regular contact with the ME Society and Seahaven ME groups as well as the CFS Support Group and will continue to meet with them. My constituency office has also done considerable work in appealing medical decisions to strip benefits from those suffering with ME. I have also managed to work with the council on Blue Badge issues from constituents related to ME.

On a broader level I have written to the CCG to get assurances that cuts will not lead to a lowering of support to for ME and CFS services. I am strident in my belief we need to move to a doctor/medical based approach to appraisal, rather than that of a bureaucratic benefit assessment system.

I was pleased to see the Labour position on ME which you can see below in a video from Sharon Hogdson MP the Minister for Public Health. If as always you have any feedback please don’t hesitate top get in contact with me on
